Thank you for your interest in learning about Proposition Full Time Staffing. The Hillsboro Fire Protection District is asking the tax payers for a $0.3500 per $100.00 of assessed valuation tax increase on April 4th, 2023.
The Board of Directors and Administration of the Hillsboro Fire Protection District have realized the Hillsboro Fire Protection District can no longer safely function with only 2 people on duty 24 hours a day. Our call volume in 2022 topped 1354 calls for service. This is 134% increase in call volume since 2006 when the district ran 577 calls for service. This can be attributed to the increased population of Jefferson County Missouri and the Hillsboro Area.
The Hillsboro Fire Protection District applied to the Federal Government in 2019 for a SAFER Grant, which provides funding for full time firefighters for a 3 year period. We were awarded the grant in 2020 and hired 6 full time firefighters in February of 2021. The District needs to keep the firefighter positions permeant to effectively protect our citizens and staff. This means that the firefighters from this grant will no longer be funded as of 8:00 am, Feb. 1st, 2024.
